Forensic Evidence Photography

The O.J. Simpson case may not have done much to further the cause of this country's legal system, or more accurately, the criminal justice procedure; it did, however, serve to demonstrate once and for all, the power of persuasion of the visual image. Never before has photography played such a graphically explicit role in the prosecution and defense of a criminal case.

Relatively few professional photographers, until now, ever expressed an interest, or demonstrated skills in the gathering of pictorial evidence.

As early as the mid seventies, David Simm, was working closely with Greater Manchester Police Force, in his home town of Wigan, and with a number of British law firms, to provide accurate visual records that would stand up in a court of law.

Dog bites, stab wounds and lacerations, leaky window frames and substandard paintwork on luxury automobiles, even aerial views of disputed boundaries are just a few of the subjects that David Simm has photographed on behalf of plaintiffs or defendants. In fact everything from the mundane to the bizarre has at one time or another found itself in front of his camera.

Mr. Simm has on numerous occasions appeared as an expert witness in a variety of cases where photography has played a significant role in the outcome of litigation.

The studio offers a range of print sizes from 40" x 60" down to 8" x 10" for use in evidenciary presentations. Fees are based on an hourly rate for professional time, plus the cost of materials used and out of pocket expenses.

Because of the sensitive nature, and the risk of prejudice it is not possible to show images that have been used in litigation. For examples of Mr. Simm's business images check out the Commercial & Industrial Page.
